EARLIER:
Power is slowly being restored to parts of the Newcastle CBD and East End, after a widespread outage occurred around 11am this morning.
It’s believed an “industrial accident” has caused the outage, where a man in his 20s cut into a power cable and received an electrical shock.
The man suffered burns to his chest, shoulder and face and was taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Several people have been rescued from lifts inside inner city buildings.
Ausgrid estimates power will be back on around 1:30pm.
