NORTH COAST COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS TO EASE FROM MIDNIGHT

COVID-19 restrictions on the state’s North Coast including mask wearing and limits on household visitors, will ease from midnight.

It comes five days after a locally acquired case of the virus was found – no additional cases have been recorded in the region since March 31.

More than 10,000 tests have been conducted in the past week at walk-in and drive-through clinics.

Northern New South Wales Local Heath District Chief Executive Wayne Jones says the high testing rate was instrumental in detecting cases earlier.

“Over the past week there has been a significant increase in testing, and I want to thank the residents and visitors who have come forward,” he said.

The community is being encouraged to stay on alert for any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild.

“We don’t want people to dismiss their symptoms as a cold, we want them to get tested to confirm it’s not coronavirus.”
