CALLS FOR NSW GOVT’S SHARK MANAGEMENT PROGRAM TO CONTINUE

Richmond Valley Council is calling on the State Government to continue its shark management strategy, which is due to cease at the end of June.

Councillors agreed last night to write to the minister and department to request the program continue indefinitely.

It includes the use of drones, smart drumlines, tagging and shark listening stations along the New South Wales coast.

The five-year initiative was meant to end last year but was extended to June 30.
