NNSWLHD RECORD CASE NUMBERS
Covid-19 cases in the Northern Health district have reached a new high with 96 infections recorded in the latest period.
Byron Bay continues to be the focus of the current outbreak, with 57, while Ballina recorded 18.
The remaining cases were scattered throughout the region.
It’s not a concern to us that we’re seeing large numbers, we anticipated large numbers coming forward but it’s come a bit earlier than we thought it would under the modelling. But we’re also not concerned it’s Byron. Byron is the epicentre for tourism.” said Wayne Jones, Chief Executive Northern NSW Local Health District.
So far there are no cases of the omicron variant in the district, although authorities expect this to change.
