MAN CHARGED WITH PROCURING A CHILD ONLINE

A Charlestown man will face court next month, after he allegedly tried to procure a child for sex online.
Officers began investigating the 27-year-old in June, after being alerted by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States, that he was engaging in sexually-explicit conversation with a 12-year-old.
While posing as a 14-year-old girl online, investigators allege the man made a number of sexually explicit comments and performed explicit acts, sent indecent images and discussed a meeting.
Early this morning, he was arrested at his home in Charlestown and later charged.
He’s been granted conditional bail and is due to front Belmont Local Court on September 16.
