A 77-year-old man has been left with a minor head injury, after he was assaulted during a home invasion at Lake Macquarie.
The man was woken at around 1 o’clock this morning, when he heard someone knocking on the door of his Penylan Street home at Cardiff.
A short time later, three men forced their way into the home, hitting the man over the head with a firearm.
The trio, who had their faces covered, fled the scene with the man’s wallet and mobile phone.
The 77-year-old resident was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
