Before the widespread use of motor vehicles, horse-drawn carriages were used for deliveries, including freshly baked bread to homes and businesses.
The “Store” bakery cart was often seen early morning, navigating urban streets and suburban neighborhoods.
The baker’s horse would clip-clop down the street, ensuring residents had fresh bread available at the start of their day.
The Art of Baking proved a popular pastime for many in our region
and NBN News was there to tell the story.
At Maitland Show, the best loaf of bread was chosen.
At Lisarow, an award winner in the kitchen demonstrated her recipe for success, turning out the perfect batch of top flight scones.
At Hamilton Evening College, an exhibition of decorated cakes included more than 60 edible works of art .
Fancy fondant and Intricate icing completed the masterpieces
created by local students in 1970.
