Housing could become more affordable for people wishing to live in the far north coast town of Mullumbimby.
Byron Shire Council has announced that it will begin negotiations with the North Coast Community Housing Company, to build an affordable and community housing project in the CBD on Station Street.
North Coast Community housing has six months to report on whether it considers the proposed development viable.
If the project is given the green light, council will ensure that a mature fig tree located on the parcel of land be kept as part of the development.
