Bat colonies near Casino could be dispersed, under Richmond Valley Council’s recently approved flying fox management plan.
One of the first in New South Wales – the plan permits council to use non-lethal methods such as loud noise, smoke and water jets to relocate the bats.
Its adoption follows a recent attack at Evans Head, where a boy was bitten by one carrying the deadly lyssavirus.
