69-YEAR-OLD ASSAULTED IN ATTEMPTED CARJACKING
A man in his 60’s has been assaulted during an attempted carjacking on the far north coast.
Shortly after 9pm last night, a 69-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle parked on Minjungbal Drive in Tweed Heads, when he was approached by a man.
When the occupant wound his window down, the man reached in and started punching the 69-year-year-old in the head.
The assailant then opened the driver’s side door and attempted to get in.
The 69-year-old fought off the attacker and closed the door, but the man continued the assault through the open window.
A bystander came to the aid of the older man and the attacker fled from the scene.
The occupant of the car suffered significant facial injuries including a broken nose.
Police are now looking for a man who may be able to assist in their enquiries.
He is described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged between 20-30, with a thin build.
At the time of the incident he was wearing dark tracksuit pants and an orange and black hooded jumper.
