RURAL FIRE SERVICE ISSUES FIRST TOTAL BAN FOR 2020/21 SEASON
The New South Wales Rural Fire Service has issued its first total fire ban for the 2020/21 fire season.
The ban covers the Ballina, Byron, Richmond Valley, Kyogle, Clarence Valley, Lismore and Tweed Shires tomorrow – Friday, September 25.
It means there shouldn’t be any fires out in the open, including camp fires, private pile burns or solid fuel heaters or cookers.
The RFS says general purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) should also not be done in the open.
The ban has been declared due to forecast warm and windy conditions.
The RFS says now is the time to check and review your bush fire survival plan.
