NINE SHARKS AND A DOLPHIN, DEAD IN NETS

Nine sharks and a bottlenose dolphin have died in North Coast nets over the past month.
The latest DPI by-catch report reveals only one of the nine sharks, a tiger, was a target species.
The nets were only deployed half the days due to rough conditions and checked an average of 10 times.
20 marine animals were found dead and 16 released alive.
In the four months since nets were introduced, 52 non-target animals have died and only six target species have been killed or caught.
